Russian Strikes on Central Ukraine Leave 5 Dead, 25 Hurt

At least five citizens were killed and 25 others injured in Russian strikes on the central Ukrainian region of Kyrovograd on Thursday.

"Twenty-five people have been transferred to medical facilities and are receiving treatment. Five are dead," the region's governor Andriy Raikovich said in a video on his social media.

Raikovich also noted that the strikes had hit two hangars at around 12:20 (0920 GMT). About 12 servicemen were among the wounded, according to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

The agency reported that the attack damaged "aviation equipment", aircraft, and nearby buildings.

Railway infrastructure and a military airfield were targeted by Russian strikes in Kropyvnytskyi over the weekend, leaving three dead, including a soldier, and injuring nine servicemen, authorities announced.

Last Sunday, two Americans, a Canadian, and Swede were killed in Russian tank attacks in Donbas.

“Global Affairs Canada is aware of the death of a Canadian in Ukraine. Consular officials are in contact with the family and are providing consular assistance,” a Canadian foreign ministry spokesperson said, adding that further details would not be shared due to privacy considerations.

Ruslan Miroshnichenko, the commander in question, said the men were part of special forces within the Territorial Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He said: “The guys were tasked to take their firing positions” and clear a ravine where Russian forces were working to cross a river.

“They did it successfully. But at the end of the mission they were ambushed by Russian tanks,” Miroshnichenko mentioned. “The first shell injured Luke. Three guys, Edward, Emile, and Bryan, immediately attempted to help Luke do first aid and evacuate him from this spot. Then the second shell killed them all.”
