Military correspondent Semyon Yermin was killed in a drone attack in southeastern Ukraine on Friday. According to Reuters, the 42-year-old journalist succumbed to injuries sustained during a second drone flyover in the Zaporizhzhia region, where he was stationed to report on the ongoing conflict.
Yermin, a seasoned reporter, had covered numerous intense battles in the eastern parts of Ukraine during the 25-month-old war, including the three-month-long siege of Mariupol by Russian forces in 2022.
He also reported from frontline towns like Marinka and Volnovakha, which have seen prolonged and fierce fighting.
Since the wide-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, at least 15 journalists have been killed covering the war, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Yermin's death underscores the perilous conditions faced by journalists reporting from conflict zones and highlights the ongoing human cost of the war in Ukraine.
This incident further emphasizes the dangers that journalists face while reporting from active conflict zones, risking their lives to deliver news from the front lines to the global audience.
