The head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, said today, Saturday, that "the attempt to ignite a civil war has failed" after the outbreak of the rebellion of Russia's Wagner special forces.
And the "TASS" news agency quoted Naryshkin as saying that it was clear that what he described as an attempt to destabilize society and spark a civil war had failed.
Naryshkin was referring to what authorities describe as an "armed rebellion" by the head of the Wagner private military group, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
In the aftermath, the Russian military launched a military operation to counter the Wagner rebellion, which President Vladimir Putin described as a "stab in the back."
Putin said in a speech on Saturday that "Wagner's forces were dragged into a criminal adventure through armed rebellion," noting that the rebellion would be responded to strongly and strictly.
