Russian Foreign Ministry Warns Sweden, Finland against Accession to NATO

On Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned Sweden and Finland from joining the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO).

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that this step would have consequences for these two countries and for European security.

In a statement, the ministry's spokeswoman said, according to the international "Monte Carlo" website, that these two countries "must be aware of the consequences of such a step for their bilateral relations with Russia and for the European security architecture as a whole."

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said that her country will make a decision "within the next few weeks" on a possible accession to the   (NATO) against the backdrop of the Russian attack on Ukraine.

"Marin" said - during a visit to her Swedish counterpart Magdalena Anderson, according to Radio France International, that she believes that this will happen very soon, within a few weeks and not a few months, while Sweden does not rule out joining the Western military alliance as well.
