Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in South Africa on an official visit, during which he will discuss with his South African counterpart, Naledi Pandor, a number of issues of common interest.

According to Russian media, the plane carrying the Russian minister landed early this morning at Waterkloof Air Force Base on the outskirts of Pretoria.

Lavrov is scheduled to meet with South African Foreign Minister and President Cyril Ramaphosa. Their talks will tackle preparations for the 2nd Russian-African Conference, which will be held from 26 to 29 July in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Moreover, Russian top diplomat will exchange views on bilateral cooperation, major files on the international arena, and issues of cooperation in BRICS.

Last September, Lavrov met his South African counterpart, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, where the two parties declared their common interest in deepening political dialogue and strengthening strategic partnership relations.
