The Russian Embassy has resumed its operations in the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, after a 31-year hiatus.
The Russian Embassy announced that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony on behalf of Ouagadougou.
On behalf of Russia, Moscow Ambassador to Ivory Coast and Acting Ambassador of Moscow to Burkina Faso, Alexey Saltykov, also delivered remarks.
The embassy further noted that the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, along with ministers of defense, energy, sports, and education, as well as Russian and Burkinabe citizens, journalists, and others attended the ceremony.
Earlier, the embassy had mentioned that the diplomatic mission in Burkina Faso would align its staffing levels with the average size of most Russian diplomatic missions in West Africa.
Saltykov emphasized that the reopening of the embassy would boost relations between the two countries.
