A member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs in Russia, Dmitry Bilyk, considered the statement of British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace about the need for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization ( NATO) to simplify the procedures for granting membership to Ukraine as a provocation.
Bilyk pointed out that the issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO membership is often "exaggerated before the NATO summit scheduled for July in Vilnius."
The deputy in the State Duma affirmed that Ben Wallace described in early June last year Ukraine's accession to NATO shortly as "unrealistic" and called on the alliance and the European Union not to make excessive promises to candidates such as Kyiv.
Bilyk also reminded us that the West realizes that "Ukraine's accession to the alliance threatens to make the United States and the European Union direct and immediate participants in the conflict with Russia, which Washington and the European Union countries do not want, of course."
