“Ramadan in Egypt Is Something Else” — that was the phrase repeated by members of a Russian delegation as they experienced the holy month in the heart of historic Cairo.
Female staff members from the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo marked International Women’s Day and the holy month of Ramadan with a special iftar gathering in the iconic Khan El Khalili district — a yearly tradition that celebrates Egypt’s uniquely vibrant Ramadan atmosphere.
Surrounded by the bustling energy that defines Khan El Khalili during Ramadan nights, the delegation immersed themselves in the sights and sounds of the season. Decorated streets, glowing lanterns, traditional dishes, and lively crowds created an unforgettable setting that blends heritage with celebration.

Yekaterina Kachieva, a Russian language instructor at the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo, described the experience as truly exceptional, saying: “Ramadan in Egypt is something else,” highlighting the distinctive spirit that fills Cairo during the holy month.
Gulnara Yarullina, Deputy Director of Russian language courses at the center, noted that although she has visited several Arab and Islamic countries, the Ramadan atmosphere in Cairo — especially in Khan El Khalili — carries a special authenticity that reflects the true essence of the month.
Ludmila Vladimirovna also expressed her happiness at taking part in the evening, emphasizing that walking through the historic district at iftar time offers a Ramadan experience that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
Irina Izatova added that the center’s staff eagerly await Ramadan every year to enjoy Cairo’s festive atmosphere, which has become a cherished annual tradition for them.
Hoda Ahmed, Administrative Officer at the Russian House in Cairo, explained that celebrating Ramadan alongside International Women’s Day reflects the delegation’s appreciation for both occasions, while honoring Egypt’s unique Ramadan traditions that leave a lasting impression on visitors.
In Ramadan, Khan El Khalili becomes more than a historic marketplace — it transforms into a cultural meeting point where tradition, warmth, and celebration come together in a way that truly makes Egypt stand out.
