Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, and his Armenian counterpart, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, discussed, on Friday, the implementation of the joint statement of the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on Nagorno-Karabakh.
“The two parties discussed issues related to the practical implementation of the articles of the statement of the President of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Russia, who pays special attention to the difficult humanitarian situation in the region," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
he ministry also pointed out to addressing some issues on the bilateral agenda.
Last Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Azerbaijani and Armenian forces will remain on the positions they currently hold after signing an agreement to end the war between the two countries.
“The Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia will stay on the positions they hold, along the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the corridor linking Nagorno-Karabakh with the Republic of Armenia, a peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is being deployed,” Putin stressed, speaking about a joint statement signed with the Azerbaijani president and the Armenian prime minister.
Putin added that the agreements would create conditions for a long-term settlement of the crisis in Karabakh in a manner that serves the interests of the two peoples.
“We believe that the achieved agreements will create necessary conditions for a long-term and full-fledged settlement of the crisis around Nagorno-Karabakh on a fair basis and in the interests of the Armenian and Azerbaijani people,” Putin said.
“A complete ceasefire in Karabakh will take effect at 00:00 Moscow time on November 10,”Putin revealed.
