Russia’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the submission of requests by Egypt and Bangladesh to join the "BRICS" group and confirmed that the issue of expanding the organization will be discussed at the upcoming summit this year.
The ministry told Sputnik that it welcomes the interest shown by Bangladesh, Egypt, and other countries in building cooperation with the BRICS group.
It added that officials of the foreign ministries of Egypt and Bangladesh have been invited to attend the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting as "BRICS friends" on June 2, 2023, in Cape Town.
The foreign ministry noted that both countries contribute to the New Development Bank.
Russia expressed confidence that the group would benefit from enhanced interaction with developing countries, many of which had clearly expressed their desire to join the group.
The "BRICS" group is a bloc that includes Russia, China, Brazil, South Africa, and India. It was founded in 2006, at a summit hosted by the Russian city of Yekaterinburg.
This international group aims to increase economic relations. between them in local currencies, which reduces dependence on the dollar.
