Russian air defenses have intercepted and downed 33 Ukrainian military drones near the border with Belarus, according to military sources.
The strikes occurred as tensions remain high between Moscow and Kyiv, with both sides engaged in continued military operations amid the ongoing conflict in eastern Europe. Russian defense forces said they successfully identified and destroyed the unmanned aerial vehicles before they could penetrate deeper into Russian-controlled airspace.
Officials described the downed drones as part of a broader Ukrainian effort to conduct surveillance and tactical operations near the border area. Russian authorities stated that all intercepted drones were neutralized without reported damage to civilian infrastructure or casualties on the Russian side.
The incident underscores the persistent use of unmanned systems in the conflict and reflects the heightened security posture along Russia’s western approaches, especially near allied Belarusian territory. Both countries have increasingly coordinated defense measures in response to perceived threats, further illustrating the regional dimensions of the confrontation.
