On Saturday, the Russian army reported a breach in the ceasefire deal, which ended the battles between Azerbaijan and Armenia in November over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, according to Sky News Arabia website.
The Russian Defense Ministry, which deployed peacekeepers in the region, said in a statement, "A violation of the ceasefire agreement was reported on December 11 in the Hadrut region."
These statements come shortly after the Armenian army announced "attacks" from Azerbaijan on the two villages, which remained under the control of the forces of the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
On its part, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense condemned Armenian "provocations", stressing that "appropriate countermeasures" will be taken.
A spokesman for the Russian peacekeeping forces confirmed "exchanges of fire with automatic weapons", telling the Ria Novosti press agency that requests to respect the ceasefire had been sent to both parties.
This is Russia's first report of a ceasefire violation in the region since a deal was reached on November 10.
It is worth mentioning that, last month, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia signed an agreement to end the military conflict over the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh.
It follows six weeks of fighting between Azerbaijan and ethnic Armenians.
