Russia has confirmed two cases of mpox among citizens returning from overseas, health authorities announced, as part of ongoing nationwide disease surveillance measures.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing said the infections were detected in two Russian tourists who had recently returned from Thailand.

Both patients were hospitalized to receive the necessary medical care, according to a report by RT.

Officials emphasized that the condition of the two individuals is stable and satisfactory, adding that there is no danger to their lives.

Authorities confirmed that all close contacts of the infected individuals have been identified and placed under continuous medical monitoring to prevent further spread of the virus.

The health agency stressed that comprehensive preventive and anti-epidemic measures were promptly implemented following confirmation of the cases, underscoring that the situation remains under control and that no wider outbreak has occurred.

Earlier this month, Russian officials reported three additional mpox cases in the Moscow region, with no deaths linked to the virus.

Health authorities reiterated that heightened alert measures remain in effect to ensure early detection and swift response to any new infections.
