On Saturday, Russia recorded the first human case of a new bird flu strain called AH5NB. It is the first reported case that has been infected by a bird, Reuters highlighted.

According to the head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) Anna Popova, Russian medical authorities alerted the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Several days ago, just as we became absolutely certain of our results,” Popova said on Rossiya 24 state TV.

However, she highlighted that there was no sign of the transmission of the virus between humans.

Some of the previously known bird flu strains have the ability to spread to humans.

Last December, seven workers at a poultry plant in Russia’s south contracted the AH5N8 strain when there was an outbreak at the plant last year according to the researcher. She added that they feel fine now.

Finally, she underscored that “this situation did not develop further."
