Over 200 Palestinians displaced from Gaza have been granted new apartments in Grozny, the capital of Russia’s Chechen Republic, as announced by regional leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

The construction of five apartment buildings was commissioned by a foundation led by Kadyrov’s mother, Aymani, to offer permanent housing for refugees welcomed to the region last November.

“Congratulations to the Palestinian brothers and sisters on finding new comfortable housing! I wish them never to see war again, to live in plenty and prosper!” Kadyrov said in a statement on Friday.

Initially accommodated at the Gorny Klyuch children’s resort, the refugees will now move into a newly built community in the Visaitovsky District of Grozny.

The new complex will house 209 individuals in 40 apartments. Kadyrov highlighted that construction of the complex took nearly six months, during which 55 Palestinians secured employment and their children were enrolled in local schools and universities, learning Russian.

Kadyrov also announced plans to establish a Palestinian community within the Chechen Republic to help refugees preserve their national identity.
