The Communications Network Monitoring and Management Center in Russia launched a new Downdetector-like service to monitor the quality of the internet and applications.
In a statement, the center noted that the new service will deploy the World Wide Web to keep track of internet resources in Russia.
The service was developed within the framework of the Russian government program aimed at securing the independence of the internet across the country.
Through the new feature, the work of Internet resources and banking applications will be monitored, while the type of problems that afflict them will be identified.
Last year, Russian tech entrepreneurs announced plans to launch a picture-sharing application on the domestic market to help fill the void left by blocking Instagram.
"My partner Kirill Filimonov and our group of developers were already ready for this turn of events and decided not to miss the opportunity to create a Russian analogue of a popular social network beloved by our compatriots," Alexander Zobov, the initiative's public relations director, said.
