Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin held discussions with his Indian counterpart Tanmay Lal on the situations in Syria and Ukraine, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The ministry's statement noted, "There was a comprehensive exchange of views on the most pressing issues on the UN Security Council's agenda, including the situations in Ukraine, Syria, Gaza, Afghanistan, and Myanmar."
The two sides emphasized special attention to peacekeeping issues within the framework of UN resolutions and the reform of the Security Council "to make it more democratic."
The statement added, "Both parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to continuing to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the United Nations in line with the unique strategic partnership between the two countries."
Russia and India share a strategic relationship and are both members of the BRICS group. According to official data, bilateral trade reached approximately $65 billion in 2023. Moscow and New Delhi have set a goal of increasing trade to $100 billion by 2030.
