Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it has imposed sanctions on a number of senior Canadian officials, including actor Jim Carrey, in response to Canada's imposition of sanctions on a number of senior Russian officials.
According to a statement by the Russian foreign ministry, Moscow imposed sanctions on 100 Canadian citizens.
Among them were high-ranking officials, businessmen, and activists of many pro-Nazi organizations, the media, and financial structures that directly participated in the formation of an aggressive anti-Russian organization and prevented actor Jim Carrey from entering Russia.
The ministry noted that the sanctions come in response to "the continued practice by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's regime of imposing sanctions on the Russian leadership, politicians, parliamentarians, business representatives, experts, journalists, and cultural figures."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau previously announced Canada's imposition of sanctions on a number of senior Russian officials, including figures from the management of the gas giant "Gazprom".
Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov described the Canadian sanctions as a "new absurd step" by Ottawa, and that Moscow would respond appropriately.
