This morning, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, called for a ceasefire in the disputed region Nagorno Karabakh, as soon as possible.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Lavrov and Le Drian made a phone call to "discuss developments in the conflict zone in Nagorny Karabakh," whilenoth sides expressed their grave concern over the continuous hostilities.
Lavrov and Le Drian called on the two warring sides to fully cease-fire and reduce tension.
Both Ministers stressed, "The great importance of the coordinated procedures by the heads of the Minsk group for the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe, in accordance with the joint statement of the Presidents of Russia, the United States and France."
The current fighting is the fiercest since the 1990's since it foreshadows a wider regional war that Russia and Turkey may join, amid severe concerns about the Caucasus, the region that transports oil and gas from Azerbaijan to global markets.
