On Monday, Russia announced the expulsion of 40 German diplomats in retaliation for Berlin's "unfriendly decision" to remove Russian diplomats for Moscow's heinous invasion of Ukraine.
As part of a symmetrical response, Russia's foreign ministry summoned Germany's ambassador in Moscow and issued him a notice "declaring persona non grata forty personnel of German diplomatic institutions in Russia."
"A strong protest was lodged with the head of the German diplomatic mission in Moscow in connection with the German government's overtly hostile decision" to expel Russian diplomats, according to the ministry.
