Russia has ordered a British diplomat to leave the country after accusing him of espionage activities that allegedly threatened national security, according to Russian media reports.
The decision was announced by Federal Security Service, which said the diplomat—identified as the second secretary at the British Embassy in Moscow—must depart within two weeks.
The agency stated that counterintelligence officers uncovered evidence of “undeclared intelligence activity,” alleging the diplomat was involved in espionage and potentially disruptive operations targeting Russia.
Officials also claimed the diplomat sought to obtain sensitive information related to the Russian economy through informal meetings.
The Federal Security Service, the main successor to the Soviet-era KGB, said the actions posed a threat to Russia’s security, prompting the expulsion order.
