Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on Sunday that Russia does not threaten Estonia or any other country, but it will always do what is necessary to ensure its own security.
Peskov clarified: "If Estonia possesses nuclear weapons aimed at Russia, Moscow will aim its nuclear weapons at Estonia."
He added: "Estonia is very close to us, and we do not threaten it, just as we do not threaten any other European country. However, if nuclear weapons are stationed on Estonian territory and pointed toward us, our nuclear weapons will be pointed toward Estonian territory, and Estonia must clearly understand this."
"Russia will always do what is necessary to ensure its security, especially regarding nuclear deterrence issues," Peskov continued, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
Earlier, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that Estonian authorities do not rule out the deployment of nuclear weapons on the country’s territory, should such a decision be made within the framework of NATO's defense plans.
