Russia Condemns Assassination Attempt on Iraqi Prime Minister

Russia condemned the recent assassination attempt that targeted Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadimi, stressing that it was an attempt aimed at undermining national security and stability.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement today, Monday, that Moscow calls on Iraqi politicians to exercise restraint, and affirms its readiness to enhance cooperation with Iraqi partners in fighting against terrorism, according to Sputnik.

She expressed her hope that Iraq would soon reach an agreement on forming a new government that would gain the support of major political parties and ethnic groups.

After surviving an assassination attempt, Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa al-Kadhimi said on Sunday that he is proceeding with the reform project to strengthen the power of the state and the law.

Al-Kadhimi reiterated, according to the media office of the Prime Minister, his affirmation to proceed with the reform project and everything that would boost the strength of the state and the law.

He expressed his appreciation for the serious national stances denouncing the attack, which were issued by various international and national bodies and affirmed their solidarity and support for the government and people of Iraq.

Noteworthy Kadhimi has survived an assassination attempt when a drone laden with explosives targeted his house inside the Green Zone in Baghdad at dawn.
