The Russian Air Force has reportedly destroyed two militant bases near the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria’s Homs province, according to Oleg Ignatiev, Deputy Head of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria.
In a press conference, Ignatiev stated, "Over the past 24 hours, Russian airstrikes targeted and destroyed two militant bases in the Palmyra area of Homs province." These strikes are part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the region, despite Syria having reclaimed large parts of the country from terrorist groups with substantial Russian support.
However, Syria continues to face challenges as terrorist pockets persist, allegedly backed by foreign influence, particularly from the United States. Previously, Sergey Naryshkin, the head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, accused the United States of supporting militants in planning terrorist attacks within Syria, including targeting public spaces and government institutions.
According to Russian intelligence, the coordination for these activities reportedly stems from the American military base at Al-Tanf, located near the Syrian border with Jordan and Iraq, where foreign support for militant activities continues to be a source of tension.
