Russia has decided to ban the entry of several Moldovan officials in response to the ongoing persecution and political motivations targeting Russian-speaking media in Moldova.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Monday, announcing that they had summoned the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Russia, Lilian Darii, and "expressed their strong protest against the continuous political persecution of Russian-speaking media in Moldova, including blocking access to their websites."
The ministry further informed Lilian Darii that "a number of officials from the Republic of Moldova have been barred from entering the Russian Federation."
This move by Russia comes in response to the escalating crackdown on Russian-language media outlets in Moldova, which has raised concerns about press freedom and freedom of expression.
The ban on Moldovan officials entering Russia adds to the growing diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
