The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Thursday, the withdrawal of Russian forces stationed on the island of Zmyni, opposite the Ukrainian port of Odesa.
The Russian ministry considered the partial withdrawal as a goodwill gesture to facilitate the transportation of Ukrainian grain abroad.
The ministry said in a statement reported by the (Russia Today) news channel today, Thursday, that the withdrawal of Russian forces from the island of Zmyene confirms that Russia does not hinder international efforts to organize a safe corridor for the export of agricultural products from Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced yesterday that he had informed the United Nations (UN) of Russia's readiness to help export Ukrainian grain and fertilizer.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson after Britain pledged an additional 1 billion pounds to support Ukraine militarily.
