Russia and the Arab League have begun preparations for the Russian-Arab Forum, which is scheduled to take place in Moscow in early October under the auspices of the regional organisation.
Preparations were discussed during a meeting in Moscow between Anton Kobyakov, adviser to the Russian president, and Ahmed Al-Saati, Bahrain’s ambassador to Russia.
The meeting was also attended by Walid Hamed Shiltagh, head of the Arab League’s representative office in Russia, as well as representatives of the Roscongress Foundation, the Russian Foreign Ministry and the diplomatic community.
The forum is expected to bring together government officials, diplomats, business leaders and experts from Russia and Arab League member states. Roscongress will organise the event.
Kobyakov said relations between Russia and the Arab world were entering a new phase covering political dialogue, trade, investment, industry, infrastructure and cultural cooperation.
He said the forum would seek to turn political agreements into practical business projects and establish a permanent mechanism for Russian-Arab cooperation.
Discussions also addressed greater cooperation between Russian and Arab business communities, including planned visits by Arab delegates to Russian industrial facilities and investment projects in the Moscow region.
The participants agreed to prepare a list of companies for inclusion in the forum’s business programme.
Shiltagh also reviewed preparations for the Arab Cultural Festival, which is scheduled to take place in Moscow at the end of August.
Al-Saati said Arab countries viewed Russia as a reliable strategic partner and were seeking wider cooperation.
He also supported the creation of a permanent project office in Moscow bringing together government institutions, businesses and experts from Russia and Arab countries.
