The Russian news agency TASS reported on Saturday that Russia has initiated a criminal case against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and placed him on a wanted list, in an announcement Ukraine described as evidence of "desperation" from Moscow.
TASS stated that the database of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs showed Zelensky on the wanted list, but did not provide further details.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin himself issued an arrest warrant through the International Criminal Court.
The ministry added in a statement, "Apart from worthless Russian announcements, we would like to remind you that the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant against the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on suspicion of war crimes. This is indeed a real order that can be executed in 123 countries."
The statement mentioned that the Russian announcement "is evidence of the desperation of the Russian state machine and its media, which have found no other way to attract attention."
Russia has issued arrest warrants against several Ukrainian and European politicians since the outbreak of the conflict with Ukraine in February 2022.
