U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington is open to any peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
Speaking during a hearing in the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday, Rubio stated, “We are open to any peace agreement, but we believe it’s difficult to enter peace negotiations without a ceasefire, because if any explosion or attack occurs, the negotiations will collapse.”
This statement comes just days after the first meeting between Russian and Ukrainian representatives since 2022, which took place on May 16 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Regarding a potential ceasefire, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared on Wednesday that Moscow “will not allow itself to be deceived” by a ceasefire declaration followed by a shift to settlement talks.
