U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed that the administration of President Donald Trump places ending the Russia-Ukraine war and halting the bloodshed at the forefront of its international priorities.
Moreover, he emphasized Washington’s new vision for achieving stability through a "Peace Through Strength" strategy.
"This is a war. That’s why we want it to end. People are suffering. It is now the coldest time of year. It’s hard to imagine this suffering... this is the problem with wars. That’s why wars are bad, and why for over a year we have been working very hard to try to put an end to this conflict," Rubio stated.
Regarding a potential meeting with the Ukrainian President, Rubio added: "I believe he [Volodymyr Zelenskyy] will be there, and we will have the opportunity to meet him. I think that’s on my agenda—not 100% certain, but I’m confident it will be."
It is worth mentioning that the second round of trilateral negotiations regarding the Ukrainian crisis was held in Abu Dhabi on February 4–5, featuring delegations from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine.
This follows the first round held in the same city on January 23–24. These negotiations were conducted behind closed doors, away from media presence.
