U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has reaffirmed his country’s stance on the necessity of holding elections to determine Venezuela's next president, stating: "Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez is not the legitimate president of Venezuela."
In a statement reported by the " New York Post", Rubio added that the United States will not support Rodríguez remaining in power, as Washington does not view the regime as legitimate in general.
It is worth mentioning that, Rubio spoke with Rodríguez following the U.S. military operation in Caracas, which resulted in the arrest of Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
Following Maduro's arrest by the United States, Venezuela's Supreme Court ordered Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to temporarily assume the powers and duties of the presidency.
