US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that US authorities are unable to exert significant influence on Chinese policy due to the presence of a "strong government" in the Asian country.
He said, "It's clear that we have very limited influence over China's domestic politics."
Rubio noted that Washington is dealing with a "strong government" in China, expressing his regret over this reality.
The US Secretary of State described China as the primary challenge to the United States, emphasizing that Beijing is engaged in the largest peaceful accumulation of military power in history.
"I think China represents the number one challenge on every possible front: geopolitically, national security, economics, and industry," he said in an interview with The Free Press, stressing that the scale of China's military program is unparalleled.
