The Presidential Advisor of Health and Prevention Dr. Mohamed Tag El Din told reporters that the Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is not a recent virus. It has existed for a long time ago, and there are more than 30 forms of the virus.

He continued that children can suffer from fever, breathing difficulty, and sore throat as flu. The symptoms of these kinds of viruses are very similar.

The official explained that people are so concerned over the virus due to the presence of COVID-19, and Omicron, so, he asked families to not worry as it is not a pandemic.

This virus could be treated by flu treatments.

Previously, the Spokesperson of the Minister of Health Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said that the Respiratory syncytial virus emergence is linked to weather in Egypt.

Abdel Ghaffar added that this virus is stronger as Egypt witnesses the final part of Autumn and the beginning of Winter.

He highlighted in a phone interview with TV anchor Mohamed Mostafa Sherdi, that this virus has existed long years ago, however, its wide emergence this year is similar to the spread of other respiratory viruses.

Regarding infections, the spokesperson of the ministry added that 98 of the cases experience mild symptoms, and they can recover without any medicines. However, 2% of the cases can face complications.

The symptoms of the virus are similar to flu and cold such as fever for three days, and breathing difficulties.
