Romania has received 490,000 refugees from Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24, according to the Al-Arabiya news agency.
Earlier, the Romanian defense minister said that the country can welcome over 500,000 refugees from Ukraine, affirming that there are several areas along the border that can shelter refugees if needed.
Last week, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that more than 3 million refugees have fled Ukraine.
"More than 3 million Ukrainian refugees have fled their country. The people of Ukraine desperately need peace. And the people around the world demand it," Guterres tweeted.
"Russia must stop this war now," he added.
It is worth mentioning that the Russian-Ukrainian war entered its twenty-fifth day in a row with thousands of soldiers from both sides killed and millions displaced from the Ukrainian side since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
Several countries have imposed significant economic sanctions on Moscow, in response to its invasion of Ukraine. In turn, Russia has responded by imposing personal sanctions on several American and Canadian leaders, led by US President Joe Biden.
