Romania participates for the 11th consecutive time in the London Book Fair، one of the largest events of the world’s book publishing industry، this year reaching its 47th edition، to be held on April 10-12، at the Olympia Exhibition Center in the UK، Nine O'Clock newspaper reported.

According to a press release of ICR London، more than 600 new books in Romanian and English، literature books، science and art books، published by more than 20 publishing houses، among which ICR’s publishing house، will be available at Romania’s stand.

The protagonists of the current edition are Marius Turda، Christian Moraru and Andrei Terian، writers Magda Carneci and Arabella McIntyre Brown، literary critic Ion Bogdan Lefter، poets Claudiu Komartin، Michael Astner، Andrei Dosa، Robert Gabriel Elekes، Matei Hutopila، Henriette Kemenes، Mihok Tamas، Aleksandar Stoicovich، Livia Stefan and Victor Tvetov. They are joined by violinists Adriana Cristea and Ioana Forna، along with cellist Nikolay Ginov. The visual conception of the stand belongs to the graphic artist Radu Manelici.

“The Romanian events، brought together under the generic title “Writing and Making History: Remembering the Great War Generation” evoke، first of all، the participation of Romanians in the First World War and the Great Union، through the literary-artistic echoes of these crucial historical moments،” the same source said.

The central theme of the program is illustrated by the concept of the stand، which translates visually the connection between literary and historical creativity، by using symbolic images and portraits of writers such as Liviu Rebreanu، Queen Maria، Camil Petrescu، Hortensia Papadat-Bengescu، Octavian Goga، Martha Bibescu، who made from their experience of World War I the substance of their literature; through an exhibition of the most important works inspired by the Great War، opened by a thematic conference، as well as by a performance of contemporary poetry، bringing together young poets from different ethnic-cultural groups، in a persity that reminds of the Romania created back in 1918، says the release.

Given the strictly commercial nature of the fair and the limited access to the public، the events in the Romanian programme will be organized at the ICR headquarters in London، as well as at the well-known Waterstones Bookstore، where Romanian literature will be present for the third consecutive year، through the most recent editorial appearances in English translation.

The Romanian stand and its programme of events are designed، organized and funded by the Romanian Cultural Institute through the National Book Center and ICR London and supported by the Romanian Embassy in London، the Watercourses Piccadilly، the Romanian National Literary Museum، the LBF Literary Translation Centre، and the Romanian Publishers Association.
