Hollywood veteran actor, Robert De Niro has joined the cast of Lionsgate comedy movie “About My Father,” which is loosely based on the life of stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco.
De Niro will play the titular dad, Salvo, in Lionsgate comedy, reuniting the pair after their first collaboration in Martin Scorsese’s mob drama “The Irishman.”
The movie follows Maniscalcoas telling his old-school Italian immigrant father that will propose to his American girlfriend, prompting Salvo to insist on crashing a weekend with her parents, which leads to a culture clash and hilarious events.
Laura Terruso will direct from a script by Maniscalco and Austen Earl, with Depth of Field producing the movie.
De Niro’s most recent movie “The War With Grandpa” was a pandemic-era box office hit, allocating $40 million in global ticket sales.
The veteran actor will be seen next in Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon”, James Gray’s “Armageddon Time”, and David O. Russell’s upcoming movie.
