Global coffee prices hit record highs in 2025, driving up the cost of drinks like cappuccinos and lattes at cafés.

Instead of giving up their daily caffeine habit, many consumers are increasingly choosing to make coffee at home to save money.

According to Bloomberg, shoppers are turning to cheaper options such as drive-through cafés or buying whole beans to grind and brew at home.

A Citigroup survey of 1,900 coffee drinkers worldwide found that 37% are preparing more coffee at home due to rising prices, with similar trends seen in the United States, Australia, China, Thailand, and the UK.

Arabica coffee prices surged amid supply disruptions from Brazil caused by bad weather and tariffs. Although prices have eased slightly, futures remain around $3.60 per pound, more than double the long-term average.

In the U.S., the average price of a regular cup of coffee has risen about 20% since early 2023.

Industry experts say consumers are not drinking less coffee but are shifting to more affordable choices, a trend that reflects both inflation pressures and changing habits, particularly among cost-conscious younger generations.
