Benny Gantz, the Alternate Prime Minister of Israel and Minister of Defense, received an official invitation to visit Jordan and to meet with King Abdullah II in the coming days, according to media reports published on Saturday.

The Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi delivered the invitation to his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi last week during a meeting at the Allenby Border Bridge.
During that meeting, the two sides discussed ways to break the stalemate between Jordan and Israel in recent years, especially after the incident of the Israeli diplomat who killed two Jordanians in his home due to a dispute.
According to media reports, King Abdullah II believes that the defense and the foreign ministers in Israel are ready to engage in the resumption of negotiations with the Palestinians, and they are opposed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's unilateral decision to annex Palestinian lands to Israel.
The Jordanian monarch had repeatedly refused in recent years to meet with Netanyahu, even as he refused to receive phone calls from him.
