President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met today, Monday, with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in the French capital, Paris, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
Macron welcomed Sisi in Paris, stressing France’s appreciation of Egypt on the official and popular levels, and its pride in the historical ties between the two friendly countries, and France’s commitment to strengthening the course of joint bilateral relations in various fields.
He also reaffirmed Paris’s support for Egypt's capabilities and efforts under the leadership of Sisi to combat terrorism and extremist ideology and to achieve regional security and stability.
On his part, Sisi affirmed Egypt's keenness to consolidate and deepen the extended strategic partnership with France; asserting that the Cairo-Paris bonds are an important pillar for maintaining security and stability in the Middle East region.
“Sisi expressed his aspiration to maximize coordination and consultation with the French side during the coming period on various regional issues, as well as the files of bilateral cooperation; especially those security and military ones, in light of the great challenges at the regional level,” Rady added.
The spokesman noted that the meeting witnessed discussions on ways to strengthen the frameworks of bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries at various levels, especially at the economic and commercial levels by increasing the volume of French investments in Egypt.
It’s noteworthy that France is considered one of Egypt's most important partners in the European continent, in addition to the great opportunity now to be in the Egyptian market to take advantage of the modern infrastructure and improve the business performance climate.
Moreover, the French president praised the successful steps of the comprehensive development process in Egypt and the major national projects underway, stressing his country’s keenness to support Egypt's development efforts and support in all fields through the exchange of experiences and joint investment.
Sisi and Macron, also, discussed a number of regional files, especially developments in the eastern Mediterranean, Libya and Syria.
The Egyptian president, in this regard, stressed that there is no way to settle these crises except through political solutions, in a manner that preserves the unity of the territories and the integrity of national institutions to provide the security basis for combating terrorist organizations and besieging their members to prevent their movement to other countries in the region.
On his part; Macron expressed France's aspiration to intensify joint coordination with Egypt on Middle East issues, in light of the Egyptian political weight in its regional environment, praising the efforts made by Egypt to reach political solutions to the existing crises.
The two sides also reviewed the developments of the Palestinian issue and ways to revive the peace process in light of recent developments, as the French president expressed his country's great appreciation for the relevant Egyptian efforts.
Hence, Sisi affirmed Egypt's steadfast position in this regard by stopping acts of violence as soon as possible and reaching a just and comprehensive solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people and the establishment of their independent state in accordance with international references.
The two leaders touched on the issue of the Renaissance Dam. Sisi affirmed Egypt's adherence to its water rights by reaching a fair and binding legal agreement that guarantees clear rules for the process of filling and operating the dam and achieves the common interests of all parties, stressing that Egypt will not accept any harm to its water interests.
