American actress-director Regina King will direct “Bitter Root,” a movie adaptation of 2019's Harlem Renaissance-set acclaimed comic book series, for Legendary Pictures.

The Bitter Root adaptation of the Image Comics title will be penned by Bryan Edward Hill, who is rewriting an earlier version of the screenplay.

The "One Night in Miami" director will also produce the project along with Reina King via their Royal Ties banner with Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian producing via their shingle, Proximity Media.

Furthermore, Bitter Root's creators, David F. Walker, Sanford Green, and Chuck Brown will serve as executive producers.

Bitter Root is set in 1924 during the Harlem Renaissance and follows the Sangeryes, a fractured family of once-great monster hunters who are confronted with an overwhelming evil force that arrives in New York City.

The production marks King's first movie since winning acclaim for her Oscar-nominated directorial debut "One Night in Miami".
