A rare Vincent Van Gogh painting, "Street Scene in Montmartre," has been auctioned in Paris for $15.414 million on Thursday.
The painting hasn't been seen in public since the year of its composition in 1997, Sotheby auction house revealed.
Furthermore, the Paris-based auction house asserted that the final price of the painting could be considered a record for Van Goh's painting in the country.
During the auction, several European artists' gems went under the hammer including Auguste Rodin, Edgar Degas, and René Magritte.
Sotheby's director Aurelie Vandevoorde described that those paintings as "The Montmartre series."
He added to AFP: "Paintings from the Montmartre series are rare: It's very likely to garner a lot of interest from private buyers, the major Van Gogh collectors all around the world, and probably from institutions as well."
