US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said there are "legitimate concerns" with Chinese investments in the United States, as they relate to national security.
"We have to be real about those concerns,” Raimondo told CNN in an interview.
“So to the extent that Chinese investors, buying farmland, buying US businesses, erodes our national security, then we should stop it," she added.
Last week, US Secretary of Commerce traveled to Beijing and Shanghai to discuss trade relations between the United States and China, the challenges facing American companies and potential areas of cooperation.
Raimondo, the first US Commerce Secretary to visit China in years, spent her time trying to restore communications with her Chinese counterparts.
