On Wednesday, Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Antiquities, received Her Majesty Queen Matilda of Belgium, and Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant Province in Belgium during their visit to the tomb of King Tutankhamun.

During their visit, the Queen and the Princess enjoyed a detailed explanation from Dr. Waziri about the historic tomb, which was discovered by the British Howard Carter.

Today's visit brings back the same charming memories 100 years after the historic visit of Queen Elizabeth of Belgium in 1923 to Egypt and a visit to the tomb of King Tutankhamun in the Luxor Governorate.   Queen Matilda of Belgium was keen to capture, upon her arrival in Luxor Governorate, the same photo taken by her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, on the balcony of her room at the historic Winter Palace Hotel in the Nile Corniche in Luxor.

On Tuesday, the Queen of Belgium inaugurated, a temporary exhibition of photographs at Baron Empain Palace in Heliopolis, under the title "1923-2023: Queen Elizabeth of Belgium - in Egypt", as she was accompanied by Ahmed Eissa, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities.

The exhibition was part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of The visit of Queen Elisabeth of Belgium and her son, Crown Prince Leopold, to Egypt to attend the official opening of the tomb of the golden king Tutankhamun in February 1923.

This exhibition is held under the auspices of the Belgian Royal Palace and the Embassy of Belgium in Cairo and in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
