The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, will meet in Cairo today, Thursday, with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, the President of the African Commission, Moussa Faki, and the High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, to discuss developments in Sudan.

Aboul Gheit said on his Twitter account that the meeting comes in light of coordinated international and regional action to deliver clear messages of the need to stop the war in Sudan immediately.

For his part, Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, said that the League dealt with the Sudanese crisis gradually, and began issuing clear statements to the Secretary-General, Ambassador Ahmed Aboul Gheit, calling for an immediate cease-fire and the return of calm.

Zaki added that the visit of a delegation from the Arab League was discussed in the ministerial meeting, but there are difficulties in the implementation of such a visit, as the airports in Sudan are closed and warplanes are flying, and the fighting does not stop, which makes the visiting of Sudan impossible now.

He pointed out that the visit remains on the table as soon as possible, and we hope that reason will prevail and things will stop at that limit.
