The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, held a phone call today, Saturday, with the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, to discuss the trajectory of the ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran, their recent developments, and the current diplomatic momentum.
According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman affirmed Qatar’s full support for mediation efforts aimed at resolving the crisis through peaceful means.
He stressed the necessity for all parties to engage with these efforts to create favorable conditions for progress in negotiations and to limit the risks of renewed escalation.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman noted that freedom of navigation is an established, non-negotiable principle.
He emphasized that closing the Strait of Hormuz or using it as a pressure tactic would only deepen the crisis and jeopardize the vital interests of regional states.
He highlighted the potential negative repercussions this could have on global energy and food supplies, as well as on the stability of markets and supply chains.
Furthermore, he underscored the importance of adhering to the provisions of international law and the United Nations Charter, and prioritizing the interests of the region and its peoples.
This, he stated, would contribute to enhancing regional and international security and stability, and support efforts toward de-escalation.
