The spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Tuesday that the ceasefire between Iran and the United States must be maintained, stressing that current efforts are focused on reinforcing and stabilizing it.

He emphasized that resolving the Strait of Hormuz crisis should be a regional undertaking involving the littoral states that rely on it, noting that any solution must be sustainable.

The spokesperson added that there has never been an issue in managing the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the consequences of its closure extend beyond energy markets. He underscored that the use of threatening rhetoric is unacceptable, affirming that Qatar will address any threats in a manner that safeguards its national security.

He further stressed that the security of the Strait of Hormuz must not be jeopardized by any party, and that no preconditions should be imposed on its reopening. He noted that Qatar is in communication with its partners to facilitate the reopening of the strait and to mitigate the negative impacts of its closure.

He also stated that Qatar supports Pakistan’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, highlighting ongoing intensive regional consultations aimed at ensuring the success of these efforts and reducing tensions. He concluded by noting that Qatar is awaiting confirmation of a new round of negotiations in Pakistan and continues to back these diplomatic initiatives.
