Qatari Foreign Minister (FM) Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss the latest developments in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, with a focus on joint mediation efforts to end the war on Gaza.
According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) on Monday, the conversation also addressed ways to secure the release of hostages and detainees, as well as ensuring the sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to all areas of Gaza. The two leaders further discussed the latest regional developments.
In Washington, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that the U.S. is in ongoing communication with Egypt and Qatar regarding a proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.
During a press briefing, Miller said, "We will present a new proposal for a truce in Gaza in coordination with Egypt and Qatar, aiming to ensure that the new truce proposal leads to an agreement."
Miller also highlighted that the U.S. administration is working with Israel and relief agencies to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Palestinians and is coordinating with UN agencies to ensure the availability of medicines and medical supplies in Gaza. He stressed that a diplomatic solution is the only path to restoring stability along the Israeli-Lebanese border.
