QatarEnergy is preparing to restart liquefied natural gas (LNG) production following a multi-week halt caused by military attacks on its Ras Laffan and Mesaieed facilities in March, according to Reuters.
An informed source reported that two of the three production lines at the Qatar Gas-1 project, the country’s first LNG venture with a total output of around 10 million tons annually, have been restarted.
Full production resumption, however, depends on reopening shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz, which remains blocked due to threats from the Iranian navy against vessels attempting to pass without authorization.
The military attacks on Ras Laffan and Mesaieed forced QatarEnergy to halt production, impacting LNG exports and related products. Restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is essential for returning the LNG project to full operational capacity.
This partial restart signals a cautious step toward stabilizing global LNG supply amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region.
