Putin Welcomes Libyan Military Leader Khalifa Haftar in Moscow

In a recent development from the heart of Russia, President Vladimir Putin received the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, Khalifa Haftar, at the Kremlin this Thursday.

Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian Presidency, confirmed the meeting to reporters, stating, "Indeed, this meeting took place in the Kremlin today." He further added that the discussions revolved around "the situation in Libya and the region in general."

The media office of the Libyan Armed Forces, in a brief statement shared on Facebook, mentioned, "The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Abul-Qasim Haftar, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu in the Russian capital, Moscow."

The press office, however, did not delve into further details about the discussions during the meeting.

This notable meeting comes on the third day of Haftar's visit to Russia, which commenced last Tuesday. During his stay, Haftar also paid a visit to the Grand Mosque of Moscow, invited by Rawi Ain Al-Din, the head of the Russian Council of Muftis, as confirmed by the media office of the Libyan Armed Forces.
