Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with the president of the Central African Republic (CAR) Faustin-Archange Touadera and affirmed that Moscow is ready to supply food and fertilizers to Africa.

"During the exchange of views on the food security issue, Putin confirmed the Russian side’s readiness to contribute to providing agricultural products and fertilizers to the countries of the African continent," the Kremlin said in a statement on Friday.

The two leaders also expressed their mutual desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in political, trade, and economic areas, including the fuel-energy sector.

The agricultural sectors of the CAR and Cameroon are currently in the most difficult situation in the region of Central Africa, according to experts from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

About 30.6 million people are currently on the brink of starvation in the CAR, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo as a result of a lack of food, particularly cereals.
